A little something from your daddy...
We've been counting the days until we could find out what you are and even tried to rush it a day. I finished work for the year on Dec 23rd and your Mom, Lacee, and I rushed to the ultra sound clinic as soon as I was done. We were all so excited that it seemed impossible that they wouldn't squeeze us in even though our appointment wasn't until the next day. It was such a blow when they told us there was no way they could get us in any earlier than our scheduled appointment the next day!!
As long as the next 24 hours were, they came and went and your mom and I headed back to the clinic bursting with anticipation. As we were shown into the ultra sound room we made a few more jabs at each other over who was right and who was wrong (mom=a boy, Dad= a girl). It didn't take long to settle the argument. As soon as your picture came up on the big flat screen on the wall, the nurse immediately announced you where a boy!! Being new to the world of ultra sounds your mom and I couldn't see how she could tell that so fast. She apologized and moved the picture so that there was no mistaking it, there on the big screen for all to see were two legs spread wide open with a third in the middle!! Haha... It was a proud moment for a dad. I couldn't believe I was wrong, but I couldn't have been more excited!! My Mind began racing with the thought, my first born son! Darrell Jude Herzog. I started thinking way too far down the road to baseball games, hot rods, fishing and four wheeling trips! I'm so excited for my boy, the Jude dude.
We left the hospital and got to work on your announcements. We were meeting the Herzog family for a Christmas eve party and had to hurry to get everything done in time. When the time came to announce we handed out our presents to every couple and told them to open them at the same time. I think Mailee was the first to get it and she started freaking out. Grandma Herzog started crying and came around to give your mom and I hugs. Grandpa was very excited too and couldn't stop saying how happy he was for us. I think the biggest shock was that we already knew you were a boy, they couldn't believe we had waited so long to tell.
That night Lacee and Brady came over and we told the rest of their family. Brady was so excited for Beckham to have another boy to play with. And we all laughed and cried at the idea of you and all the fun we are going to have.
It took us another couple of days to be able to tell everyone else. Grandma Karen came up a few days after Christmas and we were able to tell her then. It was so fun to see the change of expression in her face as the message sunk in.
